The Boundary Waters Expo is back for the fourth year, June 9th and 10th, hosted by Bearskin Lodge on the Gunflint Trail. The Boundary Waters expo is a family friendly two day event featuring speakers, vendors, activities. Wet your paddle, string up a tarp, and crawl into a tent, and if you like - take it home! Take in presentations from experts who have been there and done that. Whether you're a seasoned tripper or don't know one end of a paddle from the other, you'll learn something new at the BWCA expo.

We'll be at Canoecopia in booth P12 Visit Cook County, and we'll bring save the date cards. New website links below. See you there!

Won't be at Canoecopia, but WILL be at the BWCA Expo before heading off on our canoe trip. Looking forward to it!

Certainly worth noting. I might be up there around that timeframe.

It's really laid back, easy going. There are some vendors, some exhibits, and some presenters, and cool gear. Right on the edge of East Bearskin lake, so you can test out various canoes and kayaks.

is this a new venue for the event? no more blankenberg landing?

Correct. Quinn at Bearskin offered to host and the Gunflint Trail Association accepted. It's closer to town and his staff will be able to help.

What are the hours each day? I don't see it on the site.

We arrive on Sunday the 10th to begin camping at Judge C R Magney State Park and doing some Superior Hiking Trail and Border Route Trail sections, but I don't suppose that it's likely we'll arrive early enough to get up the trail in time for any Expo doings.

We are still working on the schedule. Last year the hours were Saturday 9am - 6pm, Sunday 10am - 3pm. Saturday night is known to continue into the night with song and campfires.

Sounds like a great time? I think moving it closer to mid-trail will be better for those whom may just want to check it out for the day coming from Grand Marais? That drive from town to Seagull and back for a "Day trip" is a long one. "Kudos" to Quinn for the hard work in arranging the venue change. Seems like a really nice guy?

As an aside, part of my newly-inspired effort to begin exploring the eastern side of the BW before I can't do this any longer meant contacting 4-5 outfitters along the Gunflint this past month or so. Quinn was one of them. Doggone if they don't all seem to fit the description of "nice guy" (or gal). Kudos to you all.

It looks like so much fun! Second year in a row I've got HS graduation stuff going on... some day it will be a good weekend for me!

Next year, same weekend, same location!

If we weren't paddling in the 7th we'd be there.

I'm probably coming out of seagull on the 9th so I just might stop by...looks like fun.

This year's expo was a great time, with interesting presentations, a variety of gear and canoes , and most importantly good friends. I thought I'd share some photos. See you next year, June 8-9th at Bearskin.

One of these years I'll be able to be there for it. Looks like fun.

Question for you..... Did you get a bigger crowd having it half way up the Trail instead of at the end of it?

06/14/2018 03:25PM
I dropped by on my way out on Sunday. It was low key as most folks were down at the dock for a paddling demonstration. I liked it because I didn't have to fight crowds to get a cup of coffee before heading on down to Grand Marais! I'm going to try and make this one again next year if possible.

It's an inexact science, but yes we had higher attendance this year probably in part due to being closer to town.

Thanks for sharing the photos! Best laid plans..... I had planned on being there. In fact, I guess today would have been our "Exit" day for our BWCAW trip after the Expo. Unfortunately, the old ticker had other plans for me, but hopefully in 2019?
