Myself and a few others went in on buying patches for our troops last year that went into the BWCA.. Well the awesome guy who spearheaded the whole thing last year isn't taking young men in this year...

So,,,,,

I took it upon myself to pick up the ball and run with it - With the Help of my 14 year old son who is working on his Life advancement..

This will be this years patch. Its 5 inches. Blue background.

The N star (Polaris) at the top. For N

Southern Cross on the bottom.. For S

20 18 fills in for the W and E on the compass..

We are part of the Voyageurs Area Council and the BWCA is in our area, thus BSA-VAC

We are going into Hegman, so I have the pictographs built into the face.. Orion (winter Maker) over a large Black Fleur De Lis, Moose (Pegasus-Fall), Leo Hydra (Wolf-Spring) with a separate ghosted Fleur De Lis that is required by BSA..

Looks like costs will be $5 a patch. If I can get 100 or more patches ordered I believe I can get the cost down to $3 a patch..

If anyone wants in. let me know so I can get a final price and the order in...

We are out of Cloquet..

From the sounds of things the day entry thing has now changed @ going into S Hegman is an Overnight paddle, unless I'm missing something.. EP77

The plan will be staying on S Hegman or going into Little Bass...

Does this patch replace the classic Charles L. Sommers patch?

I went to the Sommers Base 45 years ago this summer. It was my first trip to the BWCA and Quetico.

these unique patches are wonderful. i can only imagine when your scouts get to philmont or other large gathering where patch trading takes places. these patches could be highly sought after.

I was also lucky enough to go to Philmont during my BSA years. On our last day we kind of raced a troop from Japan back to basecamp. I was amazed that while asending the last big mountain, we were truding up the switch back and they just went straight up the mountain, never stopping. We hiked the ridge back to basecamp and they were in the valley below. That night while trying to converse with one of the guys from Japan, we were able to communicate enough to swap uniforms after the final campfire. We were the same size and had the same level badge, life scout. My leader was furious when he found out but who cares. We kept in touch and were pleased to find that we both made Eagle about the same time. I still have his uniform in a shadow box and think bout him from time to time.

I will check with our crew to see if they are interested. We are meeting this week to plan our trip so it will be a good time to discuss. These are the patches we looked at last year. The boys picked #1009 because it reminded them of the campsite on Con Island. You and your son did a fantastic job designing that patch.

The patch looks great, I'm definitely interested in getting a couple.

My son is an (adult) Eagle Scout and we are going up to BWCA this summer.

The patch has been submitted to the BSA for final the "Okay".. Another step in the whole process that I didn't know about.. I have a feeling that they may be asking for a cut too.... Time will tell I guess...

dicecupmaker I never received an e-mail.... It may have went to my junk email folder and gotten dumped by accident..

I don't want to hijack firemedics thread and I didn't want to start one specific to this hatchet.
I found it years ago by Isabella, if you look close it has the boy scouts logo on it.
Be Prepared.

That's pretty cool.. I'm sure that loss resulted in a broken hearted scout ounce upon a time.. Heck I can relate, I just put my Cold Steel Rifleman Tomahawk someplace safe in my basement, and can't find the darned thing..

There is an Old BSA Camp on Sand Point Lake that the Feds took when they created Voyageurs National Park.. I see the old dock and can see buildings still standing on the island every time I go flying by on the Lund.. I'd love to spend some time there with a metal detector and see what treasures I could return back to the BSA.. However Uncle Sugar frowns upon such activities.. :-(

Okay folks, the Saga continues:

A long story made short the order is in, and 61 patches should be done the week of May 29th.

For those of you who wanted to "pre-pay" for your patch/s I have not been ignoring you... I just wanted to wait until I had the order in and the actual verified costs in hand... the last thing I want to do is take $ ahead of time and have things go sideways... The always go sideways for me..

I got mine yesterday, and they are really, really nice! They will look amazing on a brag vest. Thanks so much for organizing everything. Hoping to take my 2 boys in later in the season and give them those as a surprise. Will be a great patch to show off to the other scouts, and completely unique.

Thanks again.

I was going through and doing some pre-trip-prep, and noticed that I'm still sitting on the patches you wanted, 4@$5=$20 if my public education serves me right..

I have yet to hear from regarding getting these to you or you getting cash to me..

Awesome patch!

MiniMN has earned her camping patch (Girl Scouts) and her Eco Camper Badge which is all LNT camping.

I like the BWCA specific badge.
