My 2 sons finally received their Eagle ranks. I let the older son go at his own pace until he reached 17 then we had to kick him in the pants a little. It was easier for the younger brother since he already had a trail blazer in the family.

Congratulations to your son's, and the whole family! Being an Eagle Scout is a huge accomplishment. Make sure yours son's add that to their resumes and bring it up during job interviews. I was a interviewer for Cal Fire out here while I was working. If I seen an applicant had a Eagle Scout rank on their resume I always make a big deal about it.
As far as the kick in the pants, I was there too! Our son needed it once in a while. What I found worked better than us being on him when he slacked off, was to call the assistant Scout Master and ask him to "motivate". Worked way better!

Congratulations from another Old Eagle.
Send my an email with their names and your mailing address and I will get them a little something off in the mail. I have a couple BSA / Eagle designs in the laser and I'll make them a couple of key/dog tags.
If you want, Troop number as well.

Congratulations to your sons for reaching Eagle from me and my four Eagle Scout sons. I kept reminding them it is not "If" you make Eagle but "When" you make Eagle. Once the first one made Eagle the other knew they had no choice.
It is an accomplishment that will become more important to them the older they get. Now is the time for them to start paying back to their Troop and to all that helped them on their way.

I can only hope that when I die, my wife does not sell my fishing equipment for what I told her I paid for it

The hardest thing is making them do the write up... way easier now with computers etc compared to when my 3 sons got theirs 20-25 years ago. now to put the ceremony together. don't forget to send invite to the president, governors, etc. Get some nice plaques etc from them

Hoot Hoot!! congrats to both of them and the adults kicking them in the pants, it gets a bit frustration at times trying to keep them motivated..
My 14 y/o man cub has all the requirements for his Life Scout in, minus 6 months time in grade. The other day he was talking about ideas for his Eagle project..

LOL. Yep, as soon as they made first class I told them they had to get Eagle. "I" had too much invested in scouting for them not to get it.

Congrats to you and your boys! I wear my "Eagle Scout Dad" pins (x2) on my work name tag! Good job!!
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

Congratulations! I received mine way back in 1978... Well worth the effort.

billconner: "Very laudable! Each of my two turned in the last paperwork on the eave of their 18th."
Same with my son. We "encouraged" him to get going when he turned 17. He had everything but a project done by 16. Two weeks before he turned 18 he decided it was time to finish the project and wrap things up. Delivered paper work and final project items on his 18th B'day.
It's been my observation that most of the scouts that make Eagle had parents involved in the troop. I stayed with the troop another 10 years after his Eagle award. I enjoyed it a lot.

AmirilloJim,
Congrats to you and both of your sons.
I was one merit badge and service project away from reaching Eagle back in the early 1970’s.
Not reaching Eagle is one of my life’s biggest regrets. Once I entered high school, I turned my attention to playing basketball, working at a gas station for spending money and gas for my Volkswagen and finding “girls”.
I really needed a good kick in my butt to turn my attention to just plain getting er done. It’s really one of the only things I ever started in my life but never completed.
I wish there were a Scouting program in place today, where old farts like me could go back and finish the requirements necessary to get a Eagle Scout Award after all these years. I am sure there others out there who feel the way I do.
Again Jim congrats to you and your 2 boys. Well done.

Congratulations to him!
My brother is an Eagle Scout, my son finished up his Eagle last year...my Daughter is a Venturing Silver recipient...my Brother's oldest son is an Eagle...and his two youngest son's are both finishing up Life on their way to Eagle.
It's a great accomplishment, and a rare club. He'll be glad he did it!

Well, I haven't made 10 years yet but closing. My boys are 28 and 26. I only their grandfather had seen it (or even lived to see them born). He earned Star around 1924 - I have his handbook and badges - and I topped out at Life around 1966.

Congratulations!
UPboy makes a very good point about appreciating the accomplishment as you get older. I attained in Life scout and had earned all the hardest merit badges by age 17 in 1964. But my explorer post fell apart during my senior year in high school and I got involved in other things and never got the last 4-5 merit badges I needed for Eagle. I have regretted it since.
