I believe that would be the Pearl. Made a model in glass and one in kevlar for about 3 years in the mid-1980s.

Mad river canoe made a Lady slipper solo canoe in the 80s it had alot of rocker with multiple layers of kevlar in the hull and sides one review said "you could drop a anvil on uts hull and do no damage" i bought mine used from Piragis and traded it the next year for a Bell canoe.

The Lady slipper was 14.5 ft so that's not it.

Indy's are 15-10, Slippers are 14-5. The Pearl was listed at 13.5. They also made a little brother to the Indy.....the Liberty.....but I don't recall it's length....I think maybe 14-8?

It's definitely a Mad River Pearl!

The Pearl was a Jim Henry designed solo canoe created to compete with the Pat Moore solo canoes and Blackhawk Solo canoes produced by Phil Siggelkow in Janesville, Wisconsin until the late 1990's. The Pearl was produced from 1986 to 1988.

Comparing KT's photo to the catalog page below, it's apparent the 'saddle seat' was removed, (notice the 'tracks' on the hull's floor), and an aftermarket canoe seat was installed instead.

Hans Solo

There were not many of these manufactured and it is rare to see one, even at solo canoe events. I believe that with the saddle removed this would be a dynamite freestyle boat for a lightweight paddler.

It would also be an excellent child's canoe, maybe for 9-12 year old.

Looks like someone is looking to make a BIG profit on this one!

This boat was purchased at auction and now is for sale by me. I was not sure what I was buying, though I did communicate with HansSolo after the purchase. It turns out to be a phenomenal canoe, rare, lightweight, high performance, etc., but it is just not the right solo for me. If you are interested, I would be happy to answer any questions. I'm also open to offers, or trades. Thanks. kona

You out bid me on it ;). It looked like a good find and in even better shape from your pics. Good luck with the sale!

I think my sister just bought this boat. Was it just sold this last week?

She's learning how to paddle a lively solo canoe ;-)
