I've used the 4"x8" Bourquin pads on a Northwoods 18, but I'm curious what others would suggest with a Northwind Solo and Northstar clamp-on yolk?

I'm dead set on Bourquin, just unsure of the model.

The canoe will be roughly 32# with wood trim. I believe the 18 was 52# with wood trim.

Would the 4x8's be overkill?

I use them on my homemade portage yoke. They work great and very comfortable.

Are those the 4x8's?

I can't remember who makes them, but I'm very happy with this clamp-on yoke. Picked it up at Canoecopia a couple years ago.

I just refinished the yoke that came with my NW solo and they are 3.5" x 7.5" , so if your looking for size reference 4x8 wouldnt be much bigger than what northstar sells.

I use them and love them but think they are overkill for a lightweight solo. I would look for less bulk and weight in a good design.

Dooger, i'm traveling so I can't measure mine but the measurements of my bourquin pads are similar to those that campnfish put up in this post.

Update:

I received my solo yoke from Northstar...impressive.

I also ordered the 4x8 Bourquin adjustable pads to try out. I figured the extra size may help the boat get up off my shoulders a bit. If I find they're too much, I'll throw them on the Northwind 18 I plan on buying next year!!!
