Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, but will be making my 6th trip to the BWCA this fall. I have a few first-timers in the group this year, but all decent anglers and would like to get them on some fish. Considering Brule basecamp with some day trips to Vernon and Swan. Primarily targeting walleye, but wouldn't mind a few nice smallies and Northerns. Alternatively considering Moose EP and basecamping and fishing on Basswood. What are your thoughts on Basswood vs. Brule for late September/early October fishing? Appreciate your input!

Tough to wrong with either, I imagine, especially if you get good weather. With new guys in a canoe on big (and cold) water with potentially big wind problems, I might consider a different option...

Have you considered smaller lakes, with access to a bigger one if the wind is down? You could stay on Wind or Good or Indiana, for example, and head to Basswood if the weather cooperated. If it was windy or otherwise unpleasant, the smaller lakes would offer more shelter.

Just a thought, anyways.

x2 if you get a windy day on Brule you may not go anywhere that day
