For those that insist on humping in a few beers:

I can't imagine that's even worth it, but then I've been wrong before. Who wants to be the first to try it and report back?!?

Not a bad idea... too bad it's a sour like mrbadexample said. I always bring in a growler or two. Just something about a cold beer after a few days in.

Nalgene growlers are part of our kit. Haul them in full of delicious beer. When empty, use to haul water. Depending on the lake, we just grab water from the middle of the lake. Otherwise, the work well as a fresh water receptacle when filtering from a gravity filter. Also works for a fishing buoy in a pinch.

I use pat's backcountry kits. Make the beer from lake water. Not bad either.

I've had sour beer...once. :(

I love beer but I'm not sure it's worth it to drag it in and end up drinking it warm.
I'll stick to a little honey whiskey and maybe some Dr. McGillicuddys.

Love me a beer after a long day of paddling.

But Sour? I'd rather paddle through the night...

Sours are terrible until they are excellent. There's no in between.

My recent favorite is the Dutchess

Domestic sours have a long way to go, every one I've tasted belongs in a box.

On the curb.

My wife just hit a few breweries in Fort Collins with some colleagues. She liked the sour. No one else did.

Not in a box but a favorite sour, Serendipity, I do enjoy some!

Folks. Many good sours to be had in addition to the Dutchess. The Jolly Pumpkin Brewery in Michigan only makes sours and they are off scale amazing. You will not disagree. They are awesome. Some are black, some are red, and some are blond, but they are all super interesting, and none could be described as sticky vinegar. I have claimed that this brewery is the best in the US. Find and enjoy!

I used to think the same as many of you here about sour beers. But in the last year or 3 I've developed a taste for them. Funny I used to not care for IPA's either many years ago. Not when I have a regular beer I think it's awful I must have become a beer snob. LOL

You have my attention. I've been known to bring a few bladders of wine...this could be a nice change

Yes. And once you acquire a taste it can be something to be desired. Like a cold sparkly berlinnerweisse on a hot june day. White Birch blueberry berlinnerweisse is alright. Most of Schell's Noblestar series is good. But my personal holy grail sours (not available in MN) are those "-ations" from Russian River.

Right now in the fridge I have Roselle Hibiscus sour from Fair State Brewing in Minneapolis- it has a sour/sweetness that isn't characteristic to the style but can be attractive to non-sour drinkers.

...And I may have once made my own sour berlinnerweisse from rose hips picked in the BWCA.
