I reckon a trailer would qualify as "gear" - eh?
Regardless, I finally acquired my project trailer.
For some time I've wanted a dedicated canoe trailer that I could easily convert to hold one or more canoes.
I found this sitting out by the highway for sale and talked the guy down from what was already a bargain.
I'm going to strip all the "boat" gear off of it until I just have the chassis. Then I'll do some welding and bolt on some uprights to support the canoe and create some type of gear box for packs and such right over the axle.
I'm already happy!

I'm not going to get this trailer.
I really wanted it for the full sized tires/rims and the basic overall look of it.
But - the guy doesn't have a title.
By the time I did all the paper work and associated costs of getting this thing legal I would be spend far more than I'm paying for the trailer.
So - I'm going to get a much newer - yet legal - boat trailer.
I'm ok with that and will still be doing some re-fitting of things.

title?
no title on any of our trailers...
didn't know they had titles for those things.
so far in Wisconsin we don't have to license smaller trailers...
If you can get that trailer for $200 or less you got a nice frame to work with. A box and spot for a couple canoes wouldn't be the worst on it.

I'm in the Nazi state of Illinois. It will need a plate for road use - which requires a title. And the title transfer is $95.00.
I just moved from MN where my trailers only needed a road use sticker on the tongue.
I hate and despise this state.
I was getting the trailer for $275.
I remember one time while living in MN I had one of my trailers on a road trip here in Illinois. While going up I-39 I had an IL state cop ride along side me and inspect my trailer looking for the tongue sticker. When he saw my MN plates he just moved on.
I hate and despise this state. Oops - I already said that.

wow...
I grew up in Park Forest and moved to the Dairy State of Wisconsin in 1975... No regrets doing that.
my deepest sympathies.... I imagine you can have a title made up for it somehow if you paid the right fees and bribes
:-)

Absolutely - it could be done. But by the time it was legal there would be so much hassle and extra $$ it's just cost-prohibitive.
There was a time when I could have stripped it down, removed all excess rollers and such, built a small gear deck and could have applied for a "home built" title.
No more. People were abusing that and simply circumventing title transfers.
See, the trailer is already "built" by a "company". So - it's got a title - somewhere - and must be transferred to me.
First $100.00 for the guy to get the original title. Then another $100.00 +/- to transfer the title to me. And then a license plate - annually.
Every single thing that goes down the road in Illinois MUST have a title and tags.
I miss Minnesota.
