I wish I would have seen this sooner - probably would have went this direction instead of my Delorme InReach. Its in the SPOT, InReach realm.

Very interesting alright! The $15/month plan would be perfect for a Boundary Waters trip. I hope the purchase price is within reach.

hmm.

Similar to Inreach:
Iridium network, 400minute (6.5hr) battery life, 2-way texting, bluetooth pairing, $450 MSRP, IPX7 waterproofing, month-to-month data option, (similar data plan pricing), standalone SOS function. Like Inreach, it looks like all data is texting/weather/maps exclusively through the App, and not native phone texting/data: They call it a 'hotspot' but this is misleading: you wouldn't be able to use it to send check emails or browse bwca.com.

Better than Inreach:
at 3oz it is half the weight of Inreach. It is smaller too.

Downsides as compared to Inreach:
No standalone messaging or screen: requires BT paired phone to send/receive messages/GPS data.

Unknowns:
App/Software interface and usability.
Reading through the Q&A, they are very vague about how the breadcrumb tracking features will be utilized- it sounds like they don't like real-time tracking.
------------------------------------------------------------

My opinion: Similar capabilities to Inreach, but the need to also have a (charged, working) phone to use almost all features is a major downside.
