Well, that definitely got my eyes wet. Having just got my third clean scan after a year of chemo I can relate. I am dying to spend my time outside this year. I watched more tv last year on my couch than I probably did the previous twenty years combined. Missed two planned BW trips. Not this year. Going in June 3rd and again in September. Walks in the forest preserve, exercise, paddling and fishing locally, some Wisconsin trips, all the good stuff. Once this ridiculous weather relents. I loved it when she said she enjoyed the soreness after exercising. I always call this ‘sweet pain’.
What beautiful writing. Since I had chemo, once my eyes start watering it takes forever for them to dry out. And it doesn’t take much to get them moist. I don’t mind this time. I think I’ll read that again. Thanks a million for that. You made my day. Way to go kid! Cheers.

Unfortunately she's had to deal with this at such a young age, but I'm glad she appears to have the upper hand against this cancer. I was diagnosed last November with stage 4 metastatic melanoma and the last five months have been a roller coaster, so I completely understand where she's coming from. Thankfully, like Julia, I'll get to still spend some time in the BWCA this summer. Attitude and grit are more than half the battle against this disease, and she defintely seems to have an abundance. I hope this is simply one of many more trips she gets to make.

So great and wonderful.

I know how she feels. Early in my time with cancer, we were leaving our favorite place in the BW and I started crying. My wife gave me a hug and said, “ we will be back.” We have done that and more than once. There is nothing better than sharing the outdoors with friends and I’m glad she gets that chance.
