How often do people make it to Makwa for Lake Trout? I've fished Knife, Oyster and Clearwater specifically for Lake Trout but thinking of going someplace new. Any feedback from those who have fished Makwa for Lakers or even camped on there?

Thanks!

I haven't been there in years. It has a bunch of smaller trout. Largest trout being about 6 pounds. We used the wind to slow drift using sutton spoons. We would slowly pull up to the canoe and there would be 10 trout following the spoon. Then go over same spot with colored jigs and whack them. Lots of action but like I said small trout. We were there around June 6th. If you get bored go back into Pan, lots of walleyes.

I like Makwa for trout. As stated nothing too large but good solid laker lake for its size.

Totally agree on the Pan lake walleye tip also. Pan can be sometimes frustrating because of its bowl contour but they are in there for sure. Kivaniva is within range also. Fish that lake at night, just find the hump before dark.

Solid. Sounds like fun. Going to Lakefinder now to get a map. I also heard it has cool cliffs.

Thanks a million!

We'll be in the area first week of June as well. Never been to that part of the park, probably just my wife and I fishing a lot it sounds.

I fished it in the fall some years ago, and as others have implied the fishing was 'solid' with lots of trout from 17-22" or so. Sometimes it is easier to find trout in a smaller lake, as there are really only a few places to check out.
