So in hopes this year I'll wonder north of the border, I'll need a grill and am very impressed with the Purcell Trench line. My trips are solo so don't need too much space. I'm debating between the ones with just the bars vs the ones with the diamond pattern (wondering if I'll really grill fish). Also debating the smallest vs the middle size. Thoughts? Opinions?

Kind of depends on what you are planning on doing on the grill. Boiling water in a pot, grilling food like steak or fish? I would go with at least the grill type ones compared to just plain metal rods.

I don’t see a need for the diamond one but to each their own...

I got the grill one and am glad I did. I have used it for grilling onions, bell peppers and other small things along with fillets.

I have heard good things about Purcell grills but couldnt justify the price. I have one of these. It's pretty solid and works great. Super stiff with the 1cm grid. Comes with a nice nylon carry bag to keep the nasties inside. 9.5"x5" and $12. Perfect size for solo. Bushcraft Grill

I bought one from Purcell trench this winter, I got the one with a grill and the nice bag. It was $73 which really hurt to spend on a grill. When I got the grill in person, it was apparent where my money went. The grills are heirloom quality, they are really beautiful, and the cats meow in terms of space consumption/weight. Basically Purcell trench is to backpacking grills what CCS is to tarps. Spendy, but dang they're nice.

I went with the streamside voyageurs and absolutely love it. bear in mind though that I'm tripping with two or four people, not solo. The expanded metal added to the slats ensures that nothing accidentally falls into the fire.
Purcell grills are not inexpensive but they are worth every penny.

I added the two small rods that they offer when I picked up my Purcell. My thinking is that the rods could aid in stabilizing the grill and give much more flexibility with the type of fire pit I had to work with.

Now I just need to use it. It sits in the bottom of my Watershed duffel where it is generally forgotten about. I have had it probably close to a decade now and it has never seen the heat. Weird I know. But I am either traveling late or fishing and usually don't place a big emphasis on viddles. Seems like it would be great for fish in foil approach.........by George this is the year!!
