My son and I are looking at a trip in June on using train out of Armstrong. This is a fishing trip for us and not a lot of travel maybe two or three camps then back to the train for pick up. We are fully self outfitted so we don't need a outfitter and I understand the unusual schedule of the train.
Questions:
Is it safe to park at the train station in Armstrong Station and leave my truck there for a week or so? (we realize there's no guarantees)
Any awesome fishing/camping recommendations not days travel from the train tracks?
Also saw the post on driving and parking close to Heathcote Lake. Is that possible?
We have all the Wabakimi Project maps as well as overview park map.

I have never parked a car at the Armstrong train pickup station although I have seen some vehicles parked there. My impression of the location there is that I would not leave anything of value in the vehicle for sure and personally would have some anxiety about a nicer vehicle being parked there while I am out. That's just my impression.
I have gone both North (up the Flindt River system) and South (down the Brightsand River system). Fishing was ridiculous good in both directions. You will find campsites and good fishing from there without doing any portaging. I preferred the Brightsand more, but that just might be because it was my first trip to the area. I think the Brightsand direction is more traveled.
FWIW

I agree that leaving a vehicle parked in Armstrong unattended is probably not a good idea.
Teenagers, especially bored teenagers in a small town, might find it just too much temptation to mess with the vehicle.
In the Drive Up Access thread, we point out the parking spot for Brightsand drive up.
You have already gotten my opinion on Smye lake entry ( I really like it!).

As for Heathcote...I speculate that parking might be possible there. I have not tried it.
I was thinking of driving into there this year, but due to a slew of family issues, my trip this year is off. :(
