Going in EP64 (East Bearskin) Monday, first ever solo trip. Totally stoked, haven't been this excited about a trip (or anything else, for that matter) for a long time! Bought a Kevlar Wilderness from Ole496 last September, new (to me) boat is gonna serve me well. Good weather ahead, hoping the fish will be cooperating and the blackflies are all on vacation somewhere else!

Honestly, solo tripping the most fun I can have.
I used to trip with others but I must have made really bad choices on camping partners because we had a lot of problems out there. I started solo tripping to save myself the grief of dealing with all of that. 20 solo trips later.....

Do I get lonely? Nope. Do I get bored? Only if I'm not moving.

It really is an amazing way to see the wilderness and you learn a lot about yourself too. You need to take good care of yourself and be mindful of everything you do. Take half the crap out of your packs that you put in there.

Have a great trip Bonvicken. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Wilderness.

We may cross paths. I'm taking a 10 year old nephew in through East Bearskin for his first BWCA trip on Thursday with plans to exit said lake on Monday.

That is my favorite area in the BWCA. Enjoy, and let us know how it goes!

If you see a big bearded dude in a kevlar Wilderness with a red spray cover, it's me!

Enjoy... As much as I liked solo tripping, I got to liking group type solos where you could do a little of both. I like setting my own pace and it's usually slower... Not that I couldn't keep up, I liked looking around more than setting speed records, haha.

It was a great trip, some very memorable moments. My wife got me a GoPro for Christmas and I used it to document the trip. We watched the videos together Sunday night and sit was cool to be able to share the experience with her. Beautiful weather, good fishing and amazing scenery. Blackflies came out but weren’t too bad. Ready to go again!

Congrats on your decision to solo. I've soloed that area. Backchannel me for some information as to some cool stuff in the woods. That's a good area to solo in, also. Not a lot of really big water, lots of things to see....

I cannot say enough wonderful things about how soloing. It completely recharges my batteries. Besides my own bed, the BWCA is the only place where I can sleep well. I sleep as long and as late as I want. The beautiful thing about soloing is that there is no rush for anything. You're on your timetable... eat, fish, not fish, read when you want. You only have to adjust in terms of what mother nature decides to offer you in terms of weather. Bring a tarp in case you're rain or wind-bound..... that allows you to stay outside without getting soaked. I could go on and on and on......!

I sincerely wish you the best trip you've ever had. Please let us all know how it went.

Mike
