So, after the chatterbait post, those are obviously a go to for many anglers in canoe country. My question is, how successful have swim jigs been? I put spinnersbaits, chatterbaits, and swim jigs in the same fishing styles...weeds. Obviously, all have nuance and techniques but generally speaking, thrive around weeds.

I've caught a few big smallies on swim jigs over the past couple of years, but I don't use them much. The green pumpkin tube has out performed the swim jig, so I go with what works for me.

Spinner baits work everywhere, not just close to weeds. They are great search baits no matter what type of structure or location you might be keying on.

I agree with Mike.........I don't see chatterbaits and spinnerbaits as being relegated to fishing in weeds. Certainly the Chatterbait excels in rocky conditions since it is fairly snag free and with such an intense vibration mimics a crayfish rather well.

As per swimbaits..........i believe anglers would do better with them by fishing closer to bottom. It is very easy to cast a swimbait out, reel it in, not get bit and move onto something else. Swimbaits can easily rise in the water column and if fish arent real aggressive they might not want to chase.

I do believe that swimbaits are a big fish lure.

He was talking about "swim jigs" not swim baits..... two very different baits.

Ah yes, good catch.

Up late last night watching the Rockets and Warriors. Great game! How cool would it be to have a Boston / Houston final ;-)

I have some swim jigs with rubber skirts.........I don't seem to use them very much if at all. Good lure in the right hands. Yes, like Mike I would probably favor a tube. But a big part of fishing is doing things your own way........give the swim jigs a go, you might just be surprised. Certainly easier to fish them near bottom. (Now you have me wanting to fish a swim Jig LOL).

I have been fishing swimjigs for quite some time. They work great as a search lure and I have caught nearly all the main species found in the BWCA on them. Give it a shot if you like them.

When I used the swim jig I liked to pair it with the Berkley Havoc Pit Boss

Creature baits like the havoc pit boss do work great at times. I prefer using swimbaits like reaction innovations little/skinny dipper, keitechs, etc. if the fish are eating baitfish.
