I can be packed by midnight. I'll pick you up at 2am, breakfast in GrandMarais, pick up our permit, and be on Sag by 930 am. I have a canoe with a motor, we'll motor to American point, and paddle to Zephyr. Be in Camp by 1, set up by 230, steak dinner by 4, walleye on your line by 5.

We'll stay until Tuesday or Wednesday. Your choice. I don't want to drive back in Memorial day traffic. Weather, while warm, looks to be nice.

I can provide just about everything. You'll just need clothes, rain gear, a sleeping bag, and a couple days off work.

Brother! I could almost do this. I live over in Brainerd but work in health care and my schedule is definitely set this close to the holiday. I could have swung it 2 weeks ago. Sounds like a blast. ! Thanks

Thats too bad. I'm not exactly "legal". I would have to just leave my boss a message, and pray he's ok with it. I'm 90% certain he would be fine with it, and 10% ok with it, if they fire me. LOL.

I suppose I could grab you and go to upper red lake. I'm not sure I want to take a canoe on red though.

Tick Tick, who's going to answer the bell? I know, this is really short notice, but I have an itch I need to scratch.

I can picture that first 21" walleye flashing sideways in the tea-stained water. Sun going down, beaver swimming across the glassy surface to check us out.... white throated sparrow calling in the background...

I have really comfortable seats in the "canoe"... it's more like a skinny boat. lol.

I'm closing this thread. Thank you to any who gave it consideration. Next time I guess. Maybe one of you guys can introduce me to the Quetico someday.

I've written plenty about Z. The fishing was much better in the 70's, 80's, and 90s. But I know the lake very well, and it's comforting to know a few spots that I can catch a handful of fish. And I can bring all my creature comforts.

I'll have to take a picture of my aircraft carriers. I have boat seats installed on my alumacrafts. Lol. At this point, they must weigh about 105 lbs a piece, so I can't really portage em. Or don't like to.

With Z, I can bring the screen tent, and the camp chairs, and the cooler full of good food. I can't exactly bring all that to Crooked lake or Poohbah.

The one thing that bugs me about Z, besides the bugs, was last year the campsite was bisected by a couple big 3' diameter pines. It's kinda of pain to navigate camp around those things. AND, there is at least one more set to come down. There is a huge widowmaker that's been dead quite a while, standing right in the middle of the tent pads. I pray if I'm there when it comes down, it's a quick death.

I guess that's two things.

I'd really like to find another lake I can call home, that has some nice lake trout. I suppose I paddle through Sag, but I'd like something a little smaller than that.

At some point I should get down to Knife, and Kek. IF I go to Knife, I'll probably have to bring the bear spray though. Seems I frequently hear about the bears down there. Or is that UP there? Maybe thats just South arm of Knife.
