Was on Insula/ Alice and the Kawsih river from 5/22 through 5/26. Fishing picked up each night (day) with the warming waters and in fact , without rushing cooler water coming from Alice in places would have likely shut down much of the popular current fishing as many places on Insula seemed to have the eyes moving to more summer time - mid lake- haunts, even thou, some male walleyes in the colder discharge from Alice had "milk'. 6- 18' worked best depending on light/wind conditions. Leeches worked good early, but the bite turned on so much that only plastics and raps were needed after the first day. No true trophies but the shallows at night and even during the day under the right conditions produced 150+ eyes for 4 guys not fishing that hard (about 6 hrs a day) Areas of Current was getting large pike involved as they were snacking on eye males and a super huge minnow hatch which seemed to take place on our trip. Suckers seemed to be running as well. Slimers and SMB were very aggressive . Put your time in in the next few week baring a major weather switch and you will catch fish the BWCA/Q-- no questions about it/

I wish I was there now. I can't get on the water until the 13th. I hope there are still some fishies in the shallows.

I got my first single-day Canoe Country grand slam on Friday then did it again on Saturday! The Saturday slam was all from the same lake. I likely will not repeat that - mostly because if lake trout are accessible, I have a hard time making myself fish for the others.

While wind-bound on Crooked Friday afternoon, I got 4 bass, 4 pike, and a 20" walleye casting from shore. The fishing was really good. A 2" gold Kastmaster (selected for distance casting ability more than anything else) was dynamite. Bass were in every likely location and would hit it on the first or second cast. Biggest was 3 pounds (quickly weighed on Boga) at the top of Curtain Falls. Had one bigger one chase it right up to my feet while casting from shore.

Trout fishing was outstanding. Caught many in Argo, but no big ones. Caught them casting from shore, casting to shore, vertical jigging in 40 fow, flat-line trolling over 10-50 fow, and trolling 15-20' down over 30-120 fow. Darky was lights-out good on our half day spent fishing there.
