Just wondered if anyone uses them. I've not seen any in the north country and not sure how far north they grow. The Catawba are starting to bloom here in S Ohio, so hopefully I will see some worms soon. They are great bait here. I wondered how far north they grow.

I have always liked them..........get about a quart and simmer under low heat until they thicken somewhat. Some folks throw in a pinch of salt or a teaspoon of sugar. An excellent condiment on Burgers and hot dogs.

Dam you're hard on a fat man! I guess these trees didn't grow in Michigan.

;-)

I have heard of excellent results fishing with those..........sounds like pretty much everything eats them. I think Rebel even has an imitation crank type bait. I have never even seen one nor would I know how to fish one other than slap it under a bobber.

Maybe I'm confusing these with catalpa worms

Catawba Catalpa Same thing. Yellow w/ black lateral stripe or vice versa. Some Johnson beetle spins are very similar. Under bobber or v-spin . Waalies will eat them too. Most people around here associate them with catfishing, but they will catch about anything.
