Now that school is over and my firsties are off enjoying summer I have more time to think and rethink and rethink my preparations for my first trip June 19th. I have been reading about it being very dry and the looming possibility of a burn ban. I have a Kovea spider stove but if there is a burn ban I am thinking of bringing a second stove. Only two of us will be going but it might be nice to be able to cook steaks on the fry bake while prepping a side on another stove. I can get a MSR PocketRocket 2 at REI for about $35 now. I know this isn't going to be a simmer queen but it is more compact than say a windpro 2 or universal.

So for those of you with more experience in the BWCA and burn bans would you add a second stove. I wish I had my DragonFly but I like the idea of one fuel source.

The MSR Pocket Rocket 2 is a great little stove with surprisingly good flame control. For a solo or two person trip that is the only stove I take but I tend to eat simply with just dehydrated meals. For larger groups and fancier menus, and more Sherpas :-) , I bring a MSR Dragonfly and use the Pocket Rocket as the backup if a second stove is needed for the menu. The Pocket Rocket is also easier to get going for that critical first cup of coffee in the morning. Nothing as frustrating for me as dealing with the DragonFly—, filling low fuel bottle, pumping, priming, etc. —when half awake.

Alocs stove review

Used this as my only stove last solo Aug. Sept. 11 day Q-BWCA trip. Worked very well mated to a 1 liter pot. Simmers well light and compact, pretty much my go to solo summer burner now over my PocketRocket or WindPro. It is also lighter with a slightly wider burner head (still hot-spots, but not as bad), compared to the Spider I have.

We're going in this coming weekend and we'll be taking 2 stoves for the 2 of us. Normally probably only need the one, but if there is a ban in place and your only one has an issue you're in a bit of a pickle.
