Since several people have emailed me in regards to this, I figured I would share a bit more.
Spent three nights casting from shore for a few hours each night. Casting relentlessly rain or shine until my arm hurt or the sun went down. Patience and persistence paid off (as well as lots of research), much to the disbelief of my doubtful father. Was definitely a major fly fishing milestone for me and an incredible addition to the trip.

Well that is about the coolest thing ever, Lakers on a fly rod. I would like to ask a few questions. What fly pattern and presentation were you using? What was the line and rod weight you were using? What was the date? Thanks for you pictures and information.

Boy I hope my son doesn't see this! That's pretty cool! a couple of years ago we fished a large point 3 evenings in a row. Lakers were stacked in there. I don't know if they were feeding on the surface or feeding on whatever was feeding on the surface but you could see fish surfacing all around us on the mirror flat surface. we caught trout as fast as we could get back in the water and several were almost immediately after contacting the water. I'm sure a fly would have been effective in that situation.
