What is the highest speed winds you have been in your CCS Lean shelter? The kids were asking me because we use ours as our tent now and had three storms go through. Everything in the Lean 3 stayed dry; in fact my middle child was reading a book in the Lean 3 and didn't even know it was hailing (the rest of us were under our CCS tarp). I assume the wind rating is lower if you aren't tied to trees, but just using poles. So maybe if we are using poles, we should double stake the poles?
In the past, my CCS tarp has been though very bad storms and has held up fine. I would guess winds as high as 70-80 mph (trees were falling in camp).

Thanks for the video Dan. It looks like there are rocks on the stakes in that video. Also, thanks for answering my message so fast last week while I was canoe camping. That impressed my oldest child a lot. The suggestion worked perfectly.

I've been through some pretty serious blows with my CCS tarps. They handled it like a champ.
I was using old tent poles with my Lean3 once. A rough storm came through. I was watching from a CCS tarp. My Lean3 took it for a while and then one of the tent poles snapped. The Lean just dropped flat and stayed there until the storm was over. I just put in a spare pole and kept going. Everything stayed dry.
I like to think that I would have waited patiently if I was in lean but I probably would have got out.

Yes our tarp has been though some wicked storms and has always done fine. Once a tree top fell on it and it didn't go thought the tarp. Dan makes wonderful products. Which is why we have made the jump to the lean 3 being our main tent.
I told the kids whatever the tarp can handle the tent can handle. Although our youngest seem to think it repells lightning. Lol

I have had my lean 1 set up in the yard for a week now, making little changes to the set-up every day. Yesterday evening I got a warning that some wicked storms would be coming through in about 15 minutes. I went outside to take it down, but I decided to tighten things up and ride it out instead. The only tree that was in play was a very healthy oak so I was pretty confident that the wind would be my only worry. The straight line winds hit very fast. The winds in my area were clocked at 73 mph! Seven trees came down on my property, but none were near me. The wind pushed and pulled at the lean pretty good, but five minutes later the heavy stuff was over. My lean came through with flying colors. My stakes all held and my Zing-it guy lines never stretched a bit. The lean was nearly as tight as it was before the storm.

yes! I just posted in the canoeing with kids forum. We were up north at savanna portage state park and a bad storm came in. We were camping where we couldn't tie off to any trees so we had our lean 3 with poles stakes out. The storm came and it held strong. Trees were down in other campsites but not ours. Our lean 3 was dry as can be. The ranger came by later to make sure everyone was ok. Thankfully, although there were trees across picnic tables, and fire rings no one was hurt. I always stake out my poles with double stakes for each rope.

Just updating this post. I found that moving my middle pole to the inside of the lean 3 greatly reduced the wind flapping noise. We have been though a bunch of storms now and it is rock solid. Last summer it even with though a severe storm with strait line winds and the lean 3 never failed. With all 3 poles on the outside it does make a lot of flapping noise. But moving that middle pole inside the lean 3 has fixed that issue.
We just went though 3 days of rain and 40*f temp and stayed nice a dry.
