I'm considering getting the large fry-bake pan (expedition model) for my upcoming trip with my two sons but one of the things holding me back is the blasted thing doesn't have a handle! I don't understand why they don't design it with a removable handle. I'm thinking of getting one and trying to jerry-rig the removable handle from one of my backpacking fry pans onto it. Has anyone tried such a thing or have any other ideas? I'm not a fan of the pliers style pot lifters.

I have both the 10.5 inch and 8 inch fry bake pans. They are great for a group of 4. Using the lids with coals you can use them like a dutch oven. In a perfect world 2 10.5 inch pans would be ideal but I dont do this bc they dont nest. The 8 inch pan and lid fit nicely inside the 10.5 inch pan and lid. They really arent that heavy and work great on the fire great or on a stove. Can be cleaned very easy with a scrubber although I prefer to use sand if its around.
As for a handle, I use the pot gripper that Frybake used to sell. I just checked their site and no longer see it. I assume any similar grabber would work. I also bought the spatula and both the spatula and grabber fit inside the 10.5 inch pan.
Im a big fan of these pans. You get that cast iron feel without the weight. I used to have one of those bwj square pans but i found the fry bake to be superior in weight and space saving.

I have the Deep Alpine, great for solo or two man trips. I love that there is no handle. Makes packing easier.
I made a Reflectix pot cozy which makes handling the hot pan easier. I move pan directly from the fir to the cozy with great results so far. I have the pliers but, would suggest silicone pot grippers as an alternative.
I plan to add the Expedition model before my next group trip.
Good Luck

I also bought a deep alpine and expedition a few months ago. They are sturdy, mine were seconds but I cannot find the flaws. I use a pot gripper and my leather chainsaw glove the few times I have used it at home. I feel like they will last a long time. I bought a T-fal and drilled out the rivets holding the handle but the Teflon became scratched from the pot older. After that it seemed to go down hill quick. I am debating about leaving one behind for my trip in a couple weeks, there will only be two of us and I have a 2 and 4 liter Open Country pot that nest. But it might be nice to fry fish and cook bannock at the same time too.

I use either the pot lifters from either Primus or MSR or the ones that look like a regular pair of pliers that I also used for my Dutch ovens. Another option is the silicone pot grippers. I can’t see the point of a permanent handle as now it makes it difficult to pack.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm looking to add a removable handle like I have on my MSR fry pan. Be nice to be able to turn or grab the pan with the lid on it (the lid would have to be taken off if a pot lifter is used). I'll probably make an attachment like is on my MSR pan and bolt onto the side and use the MSR handle.

My big go to I got from Piragis ..
I didn't like how the handle would slide around on the griddle, not a good thing when you have it full of got oil... So I had my welding guy lay a couple beads down on it to keep the handle from sliding.., Yes the handle does still come on and off..
I also found that a BBQ grill mat works great as a cover.... Grilling surface for fire grates, general food prep area...
