I know this topic gets beat to death, but often, it's pictures like this that are just the inspiration folks need to get it in their mind that they can do it, too.
It's made from white oak. Tough stuff.
The pads were bought - somewhere. I really dislike those huge blocky thick cushions.
I made a few pine patterns first to get the fit right. The last picture shows what I found in my pattern material! A full metal jacket bullet. Go figure.
I used some aluminum angle for the camps. Knobs from Ebay.
Compression springs to keep tension on the assembly that helps hold things together and keeps things where they're supposed to be.
The small cutouts in the clamp edge were to create space from gunwale rivets right where it camps.
Oh, and the 2 inch fender washers distribute stress across a large area to avoid cracking.
It's nice and light and works nicely.

jdevries: "This is my version of a solo yoke. Simple, and SO easy and quick to attach and detach at the portages. It took some time to figure out the correct length but it's completely neutral balanced when on my shoulders.
"
Jdevries- is that your design? If so, bravo. That’s so simple and ingenious. If not,... nice yoke:) it looks great.

MReid: "That's virtually identical to one I made 35 years ago (used a standard ash yoke). Recently, I put PlastiDip on the clamp--it helps a lot in keeping the yoke from sliding around on the aluminum gunwales."
Mine does not move in anyway. The short legs on the aluminum angle need to be the same length as the gunwales are thick. This allows correct pressure on the clamp.

I've made that one before. Worked OK on my Dagger Sojourne. I like this one much better.

My own design but got the idea right here, either on the builders forum or the gear forum. Piragis pads.

The art of the solo yoke will never be beaten to death.
It's always fun to see fellow builders also on the quest for the holy grail of perfect solo yokes. My latest had a build thread.
