Who knew? Maybe everybody but me.

I was on Vern Lake last week and broke a tent pole when setting it up. I planned to use my little roll of duct tape as part of the repair. Turns out the tape adhesive had dried, and was nothing but powder. Completely useless! The roll was never opened, but I have to admit it was pretty old, and was a veteran of many trips.

So, is anyone else bringing dried up tape into the BWCA?

Makes me wonder about the condition of the bandaids in my first aid kit. Those are pretty old as well.

Do you mean to tell me that the small roll of duct tape I have carried for at least ten years "just in case" is worthless? What a good heads up! I had better check it since I have had it forever.
And, no, I never knew. Probably would have if I thought about it but, quite simply, I am not that bright.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up! I'm going to check mine!

Another one who didn't know or think of it either.

Yup, I've had that happen to duct tape in the garage. Always a good idea to recheck and repurchase things like that and band-aid, guaze pads, and such every few years. Worth the minimal cost to refresh.

Thanks for sharing...didn’t realize it could do that.

If I can add a little duct tape tip I learned years back...

Instead of bringing any sized roll of duct tape, simply wrap duct tape around a Nalgene bottle a few times. This way you can source from the big roll in your garage without having to buy a small roll and it’s within reach at all times. Lastly, it basically takes up zero space.

Cheeper "off Brands" also don't like to be frozen. I have found that after its been frozen it doesn't like to come off the roll and seems to lose its "stickiness".

First of all Gorilla Duct tape rocks....great stuff.

When the roll is getting down there....flatten it out and put it in your equipment pack....Maybe even in a quart size ziplock bag.

Wow! I also carry a small, never-unwrapped roll that’s at least 8 years old. Likely needs replacing...
