Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.
"Keep close to Nature's heart, yourself; and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." ~ John Muir

Any idea how things are going to be next week with the rain this next week? Think I might be able to sneak in and out before too many mosquitoes hatch and start looking for blood? Going in Wed thru Sun on Gunflint side.

On Basswood lake and surrounds last year on the week of July 4th, I had the worst mosquitos I've ever seen anywhere -- and that includes Alaska, the Everglades, San Juan River in Nicaragua, and other buggy places. On warm evenings their swarming produced a loud, high-pitched noise all around camp. It was bad; but the trip was wonderful, and I'm coming back to the general area in a week.
Take your bug spray and shell clothes, and don't let 'em bug you :)

Derekfap10: "Just got back yesterday from entry point 16 to Agnes, and there weren't any mosquitos until just before dark. And then just a few. Never got a bite. "
I think the dry conditions going into summer really helped.
