I have a group headed to BWCA the week of the 4th of July. What are the best jig and twister tail colors to use for walleye and bass? We also plan to slip bob with leeches, too.
We go to Quetico nearly every year and no live bait is allowed. Jigs and twister tails are what we use virtually 100% of the time when we're not casting cranks.
Common jig colors are white, chartreuse, black and pink. Twister tails are usually similar colors or some variation thereof. I like the firetail twister tails (pink body, white tail). It's really all about what you feel confident using... and what the fish are biting. :)
"Keep close to Nature's heart, yourself; and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." ~ John Muir
I usually will use a yellow, black or white jig. Tails will be one of the same usually. This year we fished extensively with Zman streakz curly tailz and did well on the new penny color as well as lime pearl. They are a larger bodied grub and they fish a bit differently than a standard Mr. Twister.
What has worked well for me on nearly twenty trips is a very simple 1/8 oz unpainted jig head with either a smoke with flake or motor oil with flake colored curly tail.
