Saw this in the woods while looking for the Kawnipi-McKenzie portage.

Don't know what it has to do with pets.

maybe someone buried their pet there.

Mocha: "maybe someone buried their pet there."

I would too if he was antisocial...

Pine needles out the bottom? Is this some kind of habitat for an animal?

Got no idea what to make of this, but it's put together with square drive screws. That would indicate that someone is an experienced woodworker, maybe a trim carpenter or cabinet guy. If it was assembled on-site there was a cordless drill involved, kinda weird. I sure as hell wouldn't open it, there could be all manner of demons locked in there.

Oh great, now we have antisocial demons.

The top looks like a spring loaded clasp made to open, just held closed by a stick. I would have opened it.

maybe its a message cabinet!

That's what I thought and maybe the researcher named the animal. Pretty remote part of Kawnipi and well off the portage.
A side note. Has anyone investigated the rapids/falls coming into Kawnipi from McKenzie? I could hear them but it was getting windy that day and I needed to return to my camp site.

Yes, good thought. They are quite a passionate group. Not my thing but sounds like they have some fun.

What does it say on the front?

Very weird some one would drag it out there or bring the tools to construct it.

I don’t think so. Geocaching people try to hide thier caches, this is in plain sight. Also it would take a tool to get into this, so it would make this impossible to get into.

I can’t see the sides of the box. Is there a hole in the side? Maybe a wood duck nesting box?

It's the grail.
