I am so sad to share this news with all of you that knew jeepgirl... she passed away early this morning. She had surgery earlier in the week and she ended up with a blood clot in her lung after going home from the hospital yesterday.
She was one of the many dear friends I have made on this site that I had the good fortune to meet in person and get to know. We paddled together. Drank good beer together. And always enjoyed sharing trip stories.
She loved paddling and being on the water. I will miss her dearly.

I am so very sorry to read this news. I never met her, but I remember her photos on the site, and of course I believe she was the originator of the "Jello-Mold Oven", which was my go-to standard for my famous cherry cobbler, as well as other wonderful canoe-tripping baked goods and desserts.
Thoughts and prayers for her family and friends.

luft: "I am unbelievably saddened by the loss of this friend. Lori and I were set to do our annual ladies trip this September. It was her year to choose our destination and we were headed into Frost.
She was so excited.
Post trip beer at Kawishiwi landing last year.
"
What an awesome picture of the two of you! Thanks for posting.

Such a total shock! She was so full of life. In addition to paddling Solo in the bwca, she was part of a ladies Dragon Boat team, she loved to off-road in her Jeep, she recently took up biking on a Fat Tire Bike and was active every single day. She always had a plan for the next trip or the next activity and I can't believe she is gone.

luft: "Another great photo of my friend, Lori.
"
That is a great photo.
Does anyone want to buy flowers for the family or some other gift? I'm willing to send a check if there's someone in Lori's area who can gather the checks and buy the gift.
I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

Very sorry to hear this. It's obvious that she loved her paddling, jeeping and other outdoor adventures and planning the next ones. My condolences to her family and friends. Remember all the fun good you shared with her whether it was by being there physically or just enjoying them with her vicariously through her posts.

Several of us likely will attend a memorial or wake or funeral if we can. Waiting to hear arrangements from her husband. I'll post them here when we know more. And if I'm in town I'd be happy to coordinate flowers or a memorial of some sort once we know more. We have a family trip coming up so it will depend how soon he plans something.

Kinda hits home when blood clots have plagued me. I always hated getting up and walking soon after some surgeries. She was so young and active. That's very very sad. A very upbeat gal. Life is so precious... Prayers to family and her good friends. That was great you gals all connecting with her. Sorry all for the loss of a very great person.

I’m very sorry to hear this. My thoughts go out to her family and friends. I liked her posts. I really liked her screen name. jeepgirl. Without even reading a post you knew she was female and adventurous willing to go places others wouldn’t.

mikedmarsh1: "Just another example that life is too short. I never met her but enjoyed her posts. I will raise a toast to her next time in the BWCA."
Yes life is short and cherish it. She always had something nice to say on this forum.

Scat, knowing what we’ve both been through, I find her death a reminder that all of those warnings and risks we agree to for our medical treatment are real. The risks may be small and our doctors and nurses may be getting better at managing them, and the treatments and surgeries may be critically needed or just a very good idea, but every once in a while those risks become an actual loss to someone within our lives. And that makes signing those consent forms a lot more real because this could very easily be any of us who have done well with our medical treatments.
Life is precious and sometimes precarious.
It looks like a lovely site to remember her. We are arriving in MN later that day and will think of you all as we drive north.

Grandma L: "I will be attending the memorial - hope a few of you can make it. "
Sadly I am unable to attend. We'll be on a family vacation but I will be raising a pint in her honor at Voyageur Brewery on Saturday afternoon. It was one of her favorite places to go when in or near Grand Marais.
Sorry I will be missing you and others that can attend.

Andym- I hear you brother. That was well said. I will leave it at that.
I’ll have a pint on Saturday too. Some kind of microbrew.
Very sorry about the loss of a good friend. This has been a tough year. Last year wasn’t a lot of fun either. It does make you think.

Linda that is sweet of you to think that Jeepgirl had the jello mold oven idea. It was actually Dogwoodgirl who shared her jello-mold recipes with the board several years ago.
