What's the real name of the grass that can leave paper cuts all over your legs? It's found by water in Minnesota and look like normal grass, but if you're in shorts, it will rip your legs up. I always thought it was called razor grass, but looking at Google, this is not it's name.

Common name: Rice Cutgrass, Scientific name: Leersia oryzoides. It is not a rice, but shares some characteristics with rice. There is another wetland plant that will shred your legs called Tearthumb or Polygonum sagittatum. It is viney, climbing over other vegetation and has stems with teeth like a saw.

Random disarticulated factlet: Much of the land in Carlos Avery and Crex Meadows was once owned by a St. Paul company that produced "grass" mat floor coverings. That company, the Crex Carpet Company, took its name from the chief raw component of those mats, Carex (sedges).
