We entered Brule Lake June 14 and set up camp in Cone Bay. We watched a few groups go through to the Cones and spent time fishing and exploring on Brule.
We were enjoying listening to the loons, mallards, geese honking, Northern Flickers, woodpeckers and seagulls when, all of a sudden from near the campsite closest to the Cone portage where a few guys had stopped for a while, we heard the Eagles. Not the eagles squawking and making the noises they make, but "Hotel California" and a few other tunes. Cheap tinny speakers, but it was heard across the lake.
Did this ruin our day? Heavens no! I just laughed and, once again, realized that voices (and boom boxes) can be heard quite a ways across the waters and people still aren't even aware of it.
They missed the movie when they picked up their permit.

Well, you're a nicer, more tolerant guy than me. Love the Eagles, but I have never ever heard a boom box in the BWCAW and I would be tempted to throw one in the lake if I did!

Sort of what I was thinking, but of course I never would have done it. :-)

On the first trip with a my current partner he brought in his IPhone. I chided him a bit and he had music on there and I told him we don't need to listen to music in the BW. It was pretty funny when he was cranking the drum solo Led Zepplin's Moby Dick as we set up our tents at a campsite. We had the lake to ourselves so what the heck. I mellowed out on being anti tunes after that.

My Grandson, nephew, & I were playing go fish in the tent one night while my son & wife were fishing across Fourtown. The next morning they were laughing that they could hear us playing cards plain as day and they were at least a mile or 2 away.

I saw the Eagles at Notre Dame. It had to be 1980. They were promoting Joe Walsh for president. I think Reagan won. I met a girl from Bowling Green. She did write to me once. A letter. It was in long hand, or is that called cursive. The only way a love letter should bewritten. Funny, till now I never knew how to spell cursive. I thought it had an f in it. Like serif. I never wrote back. Not the greatest story. And the rest is history...

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.
