So I'm going car camping at Crescent Lake, Sunday through Wednesday next week, with my brother, our wives and few friends.
Does anyone have any nearby recommendations for a little day fishing trip? I realize Sawbill and Brule are nearby, it doesn't have to be boundary waters. I just thought maybe there might be some other good opportunities around there, for some action. I don't really care what we catch, just looking for a little action. Lakers would be fun, but smallies and walleyes are fine too.
Any ideas? Note, I will have my very heavy 95 lb alumacrafts, so portaging more than a few rods, isn't appealing.

Caught a few nice walleyes on Cascade last week. Almost all of those lakes along The Grade are OK for walleyes. Two Island is managed for smallmouth and can be good. Good luck.

lindylair: "Don't overlook Crescent itself. Good walleye and smallie lake and a better than average chance of hooking a nice muskie while not even trying. Or you could try for them, lots of them in the lake. "
That's exactly what I was thinking. I always thought Crescent Lake was suppose dto be pretty good in its own right.

There is a long point that juts out from the southern part of the campground. Go to the north side of that point and drift past it and to the south of the tip and you should get some action. If you happen to get some eyes on the stringer, watch out for sneak attacks by muskies, very persistent.

Wow. Ok. Thanks for the tip. Dang, I left my snapping turtle friend, "Stinky", behind in Zephyr, and now I get to name a couple "too friendly" muskies.

Baker Lake EP to Peterson Lake is a 10 rod portage. Where Kelly dumps into Peterson is a good place to find walleye. Sometimes you can skip the 3 rod portage into Kelly and just paddle through. This is also a great area for seeing moose.
