In case there is any interest, here is a video of my recent 2 week solo trip in the Northwest corner of Wabakimi.

Nice video. Those are areas I have never seen before.
My trips have all been in the south half of the park.
I never saw portages that rough.

Yeah, the portages were a bit of a struggle at first, but kind of became a fun challenge at the end.

This was my first trip to that area. I was looking for solitude....and found it.

What boat were you paddling?
Looks like an inegra weave of some sort.

Was wondering the same thing. A Savage River?? Thought the front deck was unusually large...

Neat video regardless. Wabakimi is on the list...

Yeah, it was a Savage River Deep Creek. My first extended trip with it. While I won't say it was a "joy" to carry over those portages, I didn't find myself cursing it either.

How much does your SRDC weigh, and how did it perform on the water? You have a tandem that you were paddling solo?

Savage River Canoes A lot of different options; some are very light.

I'm not sure the exact weight, somewhere in the mid to high 30's. The center seat is removable depending on whether paddling solo or tandem. The only down side to paddling the standard Deep Creek alone is that it is a bit wider than the solo version, so you have to have a longer wing span or shift your keester a bit to the side you are paddling on. The handling really depended on how I packed the gear in the canoe. If it was even, it paddled true on both sides. Other times the weight wasn't as well distributed and I found it much easier to paddle on one side vs. the other.
