Just got this from Ely Forest Service - A good example of someone not being smart and making a bear problem that can landslide to worse.

**************************
On the 3rd of July, a bear broke a pole and tore a fly before getting food stored under a tent vestibule. This was somewhere on a campsite south of a 30 rod portage into the South Arm of Knife Lake. We are waiting for more details, but in the meantime, this is a good reminder that despite plentiful berries, food must be stored away from tents in bear resistant containers/hung securely. For the sake of future campers, for the sake of the bear, for their own sake, please.

I am guessing it wasn't an Ursack Brand Tent was it? Just kidding, that is not good. Ugh...

Ursack tents? Hey there is an idea. Oh wait... Maybe not...

Wish I wasn't stuck in suburbia this weekend and was out on a canoe trip.

Can't place that location but it sounds like it's probably on the west bank. No shortage of bears in there. You should be vigilant everywhere, but bring your A game if that's where you're going.

I wonder if anyone was in the tent at the time.

OH. My. GOSH!

I don't even store my food in/near the tent during winter trips!

Doggone it that sounds like a good idea? Wait a minute, though, doesn't the "Contents" get chewed on a bit (LOL)? I've already had a bear chew on my pants when I was OUT of them, I'd hate it if I were IN them (LOL)!

Maybe the campsite by the portage to Toe Lake?

My guess would be Bonnie Lake.

Dorothy was real good at fixing screens. She had bears swimming over there all the time. The campsite by Bonnie was always a bear haven. But they never got anything from me. Haha.
