Deer flies are busy when it is warm. Mosquitos heavy at sunset and into the night. Mosquitos were terrible Saturday starting at 8:00pm and the deer flies were still working. The worst offenders are the stable flies (ankle biters- I prefer to call them f***ker flies). Numbers were near biblical at some locations during my trip last week. Haven't discovered anything that works against them besides rain pants (will bite through wool socks), which were not an option in the heat.

Blood sucking gnats, mosquitoes, deer files and disease carrying ticks thicker than bear scat everywhere. Its hell out there. Are you tough enough?

Hot and heavy in NW Wis. I am sure up north they are worse.

Not anymore! When do the biters and blood suckers die off? September, October?

Lots of skeeters this year. Haven't seen many black flies, but the deer flies let you know they are around.

Was up around Ely last week for 6 days. Plenty of species of biting flies around, but they weren't terrible. The mosquitoes were. Especially from 9:30 to 10:30 in the evening. Be inside shelter by 9:15 or you will suffer.
