There are leeches available in the Ely area now, but you're asking if they will be in almost three weeks.
Ask the question as you get closer to your trip.

TGO - your reply has me wondering - do you have any doubt there will not be leeches available in 3 weeks?

I have real doubts about leeches in a few weeks, but that can change.
One thing that makes me think that way is none of the leech trappers are answering their phones!! :)

My last two bwca trips have been to the Ely area in mid September. Leeches were still available then. Of course that could vary from year to year.

Leeches are normally available in mid September since the demand for them is very low, and the new hatch has begun to trap.
Currently, the only leeches available are what shops have on hand.

I have had a 1/2 lb in my garage frig since June. I put them in a big bucket and monitor them. If your three weeks out, just go buy some. They will keep. Your wife will not mind a bucket of leeches next to her salad.

The leeches you get in June are very hardy, and tank well. Sooner or later they will die rapidly.
You can not just go out and buy bulk leeches now since there are very few around.
This could change in a week or so.

called around the state... cant find any ( I waited to long) there are some that you can have shipped to you for a fairly pretty penny. Cabelas is out, main bait shops are our. TGO is out. I will swing though on Monday to see if I get lucky, but I think I will buy the packaged ones from fleet farm--anyone use them?

Well here is hoping. I will be there this coming saturday and if VNO doesn't have them I will be headed your way. I will probably stop anyways just to see your place and maybe purchase a few things I don't need. LOL

I enjoy reading your posts and comments so if you happened to be there I wouldn't mind shaking your hand. I will be hitting town between noon and 2 on August 11

We trip over labor day and this year we are not getting leeches. What we typically found was that the leeches we could find were very tiny (3/4-1inch) and not hardy at all. We will bring crawlers. I just have to figure out what to pack them in that is more durable than a styrofoam container.

I use a crawler cabin on my fly ins and local fishing. Works great with artificial bedding. Get the kind that has food in it for your crawlers. Lightweight and has a locking lid.

Haven't called my trappers yet, so hope their ponds have started trapping otherwise leeches for the weekend may not be possible.
AND as far as going to VNO first, I object.
I have far better legs than Lynn!! Hmmmphf!! :)
