We're heading in on entry point 52 the August 8th and hoping to reach Gillis Lake or possible Little Saganaga. Were planning on to do some fishing for lakers because that's what these lakes are known for. Do you have any recommendations for best lakes or tactics this time of year for lake trout?

Gillis, French, Peter, Howard, Gabimichigami, and Little Sag all have trout. I never did well on Little Sag, but I would fish it differently now. I did do very well on Gillis and Gabi. Trolling 20-30 feet down over 40-100 feet of water will do the trick. Use reef runners, deep diving tail dancers, or #9 shad raps (will only get down 20' or so) for crank baits. Spoons with snap weights will hit any depth you want.

The long underwater point extending west from the point on the northern part of Gabi can be really good, as can the deep water along the shore north of that point.

None of those lakes have especially big trout. 2-3 pounds is about all I saw. I did get some very nice pike in Gabi; the pike were suspended out with the trout.

Look at the map. On the south of Gillis is a bay, at the back is a portage leading to Crooked Lake. At the mouth of that bay it drops off to 60-80-100-abyss. Prevailing wind is a West-Northwest, so fairly common for wind to be blowing into that bay. Plankton-baitfish setup, just find active depth by drifting into bay using curly tail jigs, 15-20-40-60 feet. Might need 3/8 Oz. jigheads to get to 40 feet deep.

+1, or use heavy spoons or sonars to jig
