Just curious: Anyone care to comment on their fishing luck on Big Moose Lake this season? I am going there with my brother in a few days who is returning to canoeing after a severe ankle injury 3 years ago. We are light on the resource and only take a few walleye or 11-13 in bass for a meal. The most recent DNR survey could cause a person to salivate, but reality in Aug. could mean nothing but small bass are biting.

Went the first week of June.
Caught plenty of bass/pike/walleye trolling rapalas and casting jigs.
There was a fair amount of canoe traffic on the lake. I'm glad they only allow 1 overnight per day.

I will admit I get concerned about lakes which are only a few portages from the outside. The temptation to pack out large amounts of fillets when the bite is hot can be overwhelming. My adult children saw a blatant fish limit violation at Basswood Falls a couple of weeks ago. It was not until the next day that we were able to get cell phone reception and call it in and then it was too late.
Thanks, Wallee. Got it in GPS.

There is space for about 5-6 vehicles, and one could make more on the side of the road, but that should be enough room. Your vehicle will be maybe 50-100 feet from the put in. When we were there in early August, I am betting not all the reserved permits were used.

It was really, really slow in early August, as one would expect. 3 eater walleye in 4 days slow for example. And you know you are going to have a tough time when most of the bites are 10 in bass. But no worries, it was a great time. I brought a depth finder as opposed to the last time I was there in 2002. Two things stood out: Big Moose does not seem to have fish everywhere, but some of those fish were indeed very big. Second thing is most of the lake has a featureless bottom. I am pretty sure the bottom is 75% sand or muck. Only at a central reef and the eastern shore near the eastern campsite is there a fair amount of rocky structure.
