I almost always fish by myself so I'm looking for a camera that I can mount. I don't really know what's available but I know this is the place to get good advise. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Going into the deep woods is always an adventure, full of humor, drama and normally someone's blood, at least when you go with me!

Looking for something I don't have to worry about getting wet. My luck if I put my good camera on a mount I'd dump the canoe.

Depending on your budget, there's some decent options out there. In my opinion, it'll be hard to get durability and waterproof AND good zoom/image quality for super cheap. One feature I'd think would be a must if soloing is the ability to flip a screen out that shows your photo composition while you hold a fish.
If I were looking for a camera to bring into the wilderness, I'd consider this one based on its specs. I have no personal experience with it.
Olympus Digital Camera
It's decent image quality, only 5x optical zoom so its not going to reach out too far but waterproof and overbuilt for ruggedness. the lcd screen flips up so you can compose fish selfies better. The tripod mount will align the camera vertically not horizontally so you'd need to flex your tripod 90 degrees for wider shots.

$89 new, $40 used on eBay. The bottom of the line model, it has 16 megapixels, a 5X optical zoom, a tripod mount, vibration reduction, takes great pictures, and it uses AA batteries. I’ve accidentally dropped a camera in the water twice. Not waterproof, but at this price I don’t worry about it.
The ability to use AA batteries is important. Lithium AA batteries last a long time compared to rechargeables…take a few pair, and you’re all set. All the more expensive models use rechargeable batteries. I tried a waterproof rechargeable camera once…it only lasted one day on a charge. I don’t want to mess with solar panels (sun is unreliable) or battery packs (heavy).
For $30 more, you can move up to the L32. 3.0 inch diagonal screen compared to 2.7 inches, but it probably uses the battery faster. 20 megapixels instead of 16, but you won’t notice any difference. It adds movie capability.

I'm on my second Tough series Olympus now. Love them. 1st one fell out of my deer pack while hunting an uncle's farm. He found it a year and half later and it powered right up. Unfortunately it required an odd charger I couldn't find a replacement for, and since I'd pitched its original charger (believing the camera was a goner), I ended up pitching the camera. For my solo, or otherwise un-manned photo work I just use one of those bendy pocket tripods.

Looks solid, and even a 5x optical zoom would be helpful in many situations. Thanks!
