I found this nifty little battery pack that holds 8AA on a closed circuit tv supply site.
Ordered the connectors for cheap. Works great and cleans things up visually. Then I mounted the finder and and the battery pack on a clamp like the one pictured. Suction cup 'ducer mount. I've been doing the clamp thing for years; I recommend it. Snaps on and off the thwart in a moment. I've got a spare pack loaded with batteries, so I can switch them out quickly if needed. (It's on the bow of the lund just for photo purposes; weird picture; sorry.) On the right side of the picture, you can see another clamp; the bow light is mounted on the other side. Another clamp mod I would recommend-beats the hell out of those portable lights with the fine threads that take a million years to tighten.

I second the clamp idea. I kind of stumbled my way into after I didn't get the supplies ordered for my "ideal" mount in time for my trip. I rent the canoe so to keep from scratching and to increase the grip I use one of those jar opener grips and a washcloth wrapped around the thwart to make sure everything stays in place. It's not pretty because I just duct tape the depth finder to the clamp. I like your battery pack, I might need to check into it.

Have you ever considered this type of battery for your locator. This is one I used on mine. 12V re-chargeable not every large, its the same type that is used in motion decoys, (mojos). They'll run a mojo for several long days of hunting before they need to be re-charged and could probably be re-charged with a solar battery charger.

I wish I had seen this post before I spent a bunch of $ on mounting hardware.

Q2-
I have a similar battery for my flasher. It would work perfectly, but is pretty heavy compared to 8 AA batteries.

Yup, my wife and I have been up here for 2 years now.

I have the mongo version of that 12v. I will be picking up that smaller size and a solar charger for my trip.

And its not like I am a good enough fisherman to make it pay off, but...I like having it!

You can get a Scotty transducer mount, you would have to rig up a clamp for it. Like 2 mini C CLamps. I started with this one on my kayak but, it is a major trash grabber.

Instead, I bought a second transducer and glued it inside the hull instead. But, if you are renting, that mount is a solid option.

Yep, heavier than AA's. Here's how I set up my Frog Boat. Ball mounts are more permanent but easy and quick to connect to, works for me but may not work for everyone. 090916-102232.JPG" align="left" >
