Any favorites for campsites on Horseshoe? Heading in next Thursday at Lizz. We have four in our group: My husband and I (our second trip), plus our five year old daughter and ten year old nephew (first timers). Would be interested in any favorites on Caribou as well, just in case we decide to stay closer to the EP. We will be base camping. We base camped on the peninsula site on Gaskin last year and loved it, but I don’t think my five year old can handle the portage from Horseshoe to Gaskin. I also had a baby three months ago and am a bit out of shape so I’m not too thrilled about trying it, either except for on a day trip with a lighter load. Thanks in advance, I always appreciate the great advice here!

#672 is a really nice site. Would be decent swimming for the little ones too, if I recall. Not a dropoff, pretty shallow for a ways. Some good open space for playing round too.

You should enter that info into the site details! Not real good info on that site. That looks like a great summer site.

I am planning to take my teenagers there next June. I am thinking 675 or 674 would make good base camps. From what I read, they would not be good for a 5 year old...up off the water where a fall might scare you both.

I am thinking the one down the Brule River, 676, would make a good spring site for Moose and Pike. From what I read, the latrine could be a problem; uphill and swampy (probably only swampy in the spring). But that area looks good for moose sightings.

And you should be fine, my wife and I had two kids and I bounced right back.

675 is an amazing site. One of the best I have been on. But I agree with foxfire that the high cliff areas may not be suitable for a five year old. But you’re already probably watching her close to keep her away from the water. So maybe it’s not a big deal. We saw moose right from the campsite.

The 2 campsites near the Horse river are nice. The one closest to the river has a nice beach area. The other site is big & open with many levels & a big rock front. I believe they are 1115 & 1116. Popular sites may be the first ones taken, but you never know when people are coming & going. Good luck & have a great time.

Edit..duh...Horseshoe...not Horse. Double duh..

Don't know the number but the first camp on the SW arm, like you turn to go to Gaskin, it's on the left. Pretty big and lots of moose in the area.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. From what I saw on PP (and there weren’t a lot of detailed reviews), I wasn’t sure I’d find a good site on Horseshoe. These all look like great options. :)

We’re headed back home on Sunday the 19th, but that would’ve been fun to possibly see someone from this board!

+1. I stayed there with my family about 3 seasons ago. Nice little spot to basecamp with day trips to the surrounding lakes. Moose sightings are common in that area (but not guaranteed :).
