Hey guys,

I am heading in Fourtown/Boot area the week after labor day and was wondering if you anyone had any fishing info/experiences they want to share about that area. I fished Horse a couple of years ago, but have never been on Fourtown or Boot. We will be base camping and would like to catch some Walleyes in between the cocktails ; ) . Not looking for honeyholes or anything just some suggestions/experiences.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Second week in June this year North End of boot on the west side near lily pads caught a 44-inch Northern with Red Devil spoon red and white.

We stayed on boot for 3 days last Labor Day week and struggled with walleyes. Live bait fishing was a struggle because of all the rock bass. Finally found a few walleye just to the left of the big rock wall right across from the best campsite on the lake. We were in about 12-15" of water and fished leeches under slip bobbers.

A side note, we spoke to several others in the area and I think it was just a really tough bite because our first couple days it never got out of the 40s and was rainy those two days, I just don't think the fishing ever recovered after that.

We did manage some smallmouth on Boot, Fourtown, and Gun.

There are some nice size largemouth bass at the bottom of boot near the Portage into four town.

I looked at the map but can you better explain which campsite is the "best"?

Also anyone have any experience fishing on Fourtown? It looks like a good walleye lake from the map given all of the island and points to throw jigs at.

The 5 star site is on the east side at the top of Boot lake across from the rock face.

There are some nice size walleyes in Boot (next to Fourtown) based on ALOT of research I've done on this site... However, I based camped Boot for three days and only caught one rock bass and my friends didn't catch anything special either.

And this past July, from 19th-28th, we stayed on fourtown one night on our way out from Crooked lake (friday bay) and we day tripped over to boot to give it another chance and yet again just a rockbass.... It was also 85 degrees each time I was there which I don't believe helped induce the fish to bite. One thing to consider is that Boot is a smaller body of water which can warm up much easier than large bodies of water; which I think sometimes can be negative for fishing. On my Fish finder it looked like all the fish were hanging in out in the deep weed flats of the lake in 20'-25ft of water. I just couldn't catch any. It is a Nice lake though that is really easy to fish considering its smaller size but just didn't work out for me.

I would Imagine you might have better luck in early September. But people do pull some above average size walleye out of there so don't let my experience discourage you.

Did I mention I'll be on Alton Lake labor day weekend searching for the some big walleyes?

And by the way, the one time I actually camped on Fourtown and fished we were catching some nice "eater walleyes" by the 3 islands just east of the Boot Lake portage. I imagine if you fish around there you will catch'em...

I believe these were all caught on Boot.

We were fishing Fourtown in July. (We made an excursion to Boot but were chased home by a thunderstorm). Fishing was fair. We caught bass, walleyes and northerns and all of them were puking up small fish. There must be a good forage base of shad or ciscos in this lake...maybe someone could help me out from this picture. It was the first time I saw smallmouth more into minnows than crayfish. I think we only caught the gluttons because everyone was stuffed. We caught them on jointed rapalas, wacky worms and leeches.
