Hey fellow BWCA enthusiasts,
I'm heading up to the White Iron Lake chain for a few days in early September. Never fished this chain before, and can't find a whole lot of information about it. Have any of y'all fished this chain before? Any tips or areas you'd recommend?

For some context, Im heading up with the family and the kids are still too young to get the real BWCA experience (1 year old and a 4 year old). Other than bobber fishing with the 4 year old, I'm hoping to get some adult fishing time in while I'm there.

I'm mostly a bass fisherman. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

off top of my (cone-shaped) head:

A nice starting point is about 50 yards out from the docks at Pine Point Lodge. Try varying depths, there you could run into walleye, crappie, northerns.
Go through the channel/Silver Rapids and hang a left into Garden Lake, it opens up to a weedy sort of bay on the right (south), there are some decent smallies there. You might get the odd largemouth once in awhile. On White Iron, hit the points. Also, maybe try where the river enters the lake on the south part....and right across there along Beargrease Island.
On the north half of White Iron, there's a hump sort of in the middle that supposedly produces, though I probably hit it on bad days or with the wrong approach.

The chain has some big fish - good smallies and bigger crappie than most lakes.

Howard hit most of the good spots. Be careful with that weedy bay, there's a huge rock guarding the entrance that nearly took my lower unit off but it's fun with northern and bass using topwaters. A few more spots:

As you're going south on White Iron, there's a point on the west side with a cabin on it that marks the entrance of the bay that White Iron Beach Resort is in. That point can produce some Walleye and Bass. Just past that is the hump that Howard mentioned, but you'll need electronics to find it. There's also a similar hump in Farm Lake, I caught at least one of each species - bass, walleye, northern, crappie, and perch there one evening.

Further south on White Iron it gets narrow. There's a reef on the east side, usually with a few rocks sticking out and being guarded by a seagull. Difficult to fish unless the wind is just right, but good for walleye. Just past that is a popular place called Ring Rock, a high walled area that's pretty popular.

The outflow of Silver Rapids is also popular, anchor up over on the east side up against the high walls. Not a good place on weekends though, too much boat traffic coming through.

Send me an email if you'd like more info...but I asked the same question here a year ago. We went for a week starting Labor Day to White Iron Beach and fished hard on that lake and a bit on the others.

As said before, the hump out in the middle is popular but has fish. I caught a 26" walleye on a smaller hump to it's south dragging crawler lindy rig. Ring rock was ok, the far south end where the river flows in is also popular but we didn't have good luck.

Our best northern and smallie spots were in shallow in the large bay North of ring rock. Most consistent spot we had all week for all fish, slip bobbers in 8 to 18' in the hole just above the Silver rapids bridge.
