Wood Rose. And that is the “hip.” Very edible but don’t eat the seeds.

With all those thorns I would have to say it is Prickly Wild Rose (Rosa acicularis) which is the most common species in NE Minnesota.

Rose hip tea was a very important source of vitamin C for native Americans and the voyageurs.

what they all said. there is also some wives tale about the size of the hip indicating the type of winter coming. big hips... big snows....
