After making some REALLY bad life choices in the late 90's that distracted me from my favorite place in the world since 1997, I finally made it back to BWCA for a quick trip with my oldest son (6). We put in at Hungry Jack lake, then a quick paddle to EP 60 and Duncan Lake. Base camped a couple days with some great day trips. Samuel is hooked, cried on the way out and wanted to stay in forever. I'm working on a trip report, but I really wanted to get on here and just say that I'm so glad that I started making good decisions about 10 years ago, met my wife, and turned my life around.
I'm just thrilled that my three boys love paddling and camping! I'll be posting that trip report soon, get my account set up with a flying moose, and add the sticker to my truck as well. Looking forward to at least one trip/year and interacting with you all on the site, too!

A lot of us had choices to make at certain points in our lives that could have gone good or bad.
You know that you changed course at some point in a way that greatly improved your life and the lives of those around you.
Onward and upward!

What a great thing to be back and introducing the area to your oldest son! No doubt, the others will follow soon, and fight hard down the road to keep the area wild.

It's not always bad choices. Sometimes it's just life. When my youngest daughter was born, it was less than a year and I was going through a divorce. Supporting my family got very costly paying full child support, even though we both had two of our kids. Plus,... well, supporting the kids. I worked night and day, and thanks to my parents who come up and helped out from time to time when it got really hard.
Canoeing? Backseat for a few years, but the fateful day came when I was invited to travel with a couple friends. We did the infamous Mudro, Horse, Basswood Falls, Friday Bay, Gun, Fourtown and back. So yeah, I was "home" again like you experienced. Keep that enthusiasm, you have the opportunity to encourage many... Enjoy!
I've had the opportunity to take my kids now and then, but it was far and few between. When I returned, it was the next year and I went with my son (who was in his early twenties) to Woodland Caribou. It was a trip of all trips, mostly because it was the first time we did something he didn't ruin. In fact, he apologized and proceeded to tell me he hoped he didn't end up with a kid like him. Haha.
Now life has my kids working, working, working. The seed doesn't fall far from the tree.
Encouragement is something that will go far!

That's all part of being "Human!" I look back at "Bad choices" I made that didn't result in any harm, but it was only by the grace of God I "Escaped" unscathed. Sometimes those "Bad choices" make for a darn "Good education!"
Looking so forward to reading your trip report, that's an area I'm intimately familiar with. Started many a trip from Nancy & Dave's HJO, they are wonderful people!
