Dear fellow BWCA.com Readers,

Could you spare a long weekend during September or October to help the wilderness? The Boundary Waters Advisory Committee (BWAC) is an all-volunteer Minnesota nonprofit that has been advocating for and stewarding trails in the BWCA Wilderness since 2002. Our project since 2012 has been restoring the Pagami Creek fire-damaged Powwow Trail north of Isabella, MN with a goal of making it hikeable in 2018 for the 40 year anniversary of the BWCA Wilderness Act of 1978.

BWAC has had almost 100 volunteers--13 crews--on the trail already in 2018 but more work is needed. Our trips are hard work, rewarding, and fun. Over half of our 2018 volunteers have been on more than one trip--we strive to make BWAC the best place to give your valuable volunteer time and energy to. All training and tools (loppers and Japanese landscaping saws) are provided. If you are new to backpacking we can help with resources to rent or borrow gear. Part of our mission is to introduce novices to backpacking in the BWCAW; if you want to help you are the right person for the job. Don't hesitate to find out more.

We have a Meetup site, https://www.meetup.com/Friends-of-BWCA-Trails/, where you can search available trips or browse past trips and crew photos. Visit and join the Meetup site to find out about local events and upcoming trips. I am also happy to chat about volunteer opportunities and what being part of a crew is like. Call me, email me, or message me through this site.

Thanks for reading this post, I hope to see you on trail,

Susan Pollock
