For an obvious (media like forecast you can check out the following) -- link

( Not much ) But if you want in depth forecasts that pertain to wind and wind direction along with other weather parameters --- look me up. I do it for a living if you want more detail .

I've tried multiple sources over the last several years. My go to is accuweather. It really hasn't let me down yet. I'll double check it the day of my entry when in Ely for any last minute changes.

If I can piggy back a question- When you are at Trails End or in the center of the BW- essentially the same distance from Ely and Grand Maris- what weather station to people look at? Or is there one up the Gunflint I don't know about?

Weather Underground

I use this one

Accuweather

National weather... NOAA.
Or just call white wolf...

I think Ely gives you a better forecast than GM for out the Gunflint because GM is affected by the big lake.

The National Weather Service, Duluth Office. They are responsible for the weather forecasts for all of NE Minnesota and provide all of the raw data and climate data that every other weather forecasting company uses to make their own (usually inferior) forecasts.

I’ve had really bad luck with Crackuweather (accuweather), especially around L Michigan. So I avoid using them no matter the location. I’m a fan of NWS and Weather Underground.

I usually use all of the weather services mentioned here and find the truth somewhere in the middle. :) Usually all end up being pretty similar on their forecast at least with temps anyway.

Pack warm, you have a cold front coming in on Monday.

Ryebread, heading in Sunday, the 16th. Going in Snowbank with intent to base Thomas/Frasier area and day trip from there. Already repacking for some wet and chilly as LindenTree3 has suggested.

Stay warm and happy paddling, Ben.

As said above Ely forecast and all forecast start with NOAA - NWS. For Ely that comes out of Duluth airport and looks like this
KDLH 121055Z 23009KT 10SM R09/P6000FT SCT120 20/16 A2993 RMK A02 SLP131 T02000161
KDLH 121138Z 1212/1312 23009KT P6SM BKN100
FM122000 17008KT P6SM SCT050
Metars for pilots. Then converted over to graphics and "English". You can get Elys current conditions (updated hourly) and it show previous conditions ( conditions link ). Or by tuning into 132.025 or calling 218-365-3814 for an up to the minute updated recorded message. For a easy to read forecast I go to this site Air sports. Airsports has a forecast for most places in the States.

Hi Whitewolf,
My trip partner and I are heading up to Crane Lake tomorrow, 9/13 and catching a tow to La Croix on Friday. Plan is to stay one lake off of La Croix. Staying for the week. Hate to be a pain but would appreciate a detailed forecast for us. Thanks!!!

Expect good chances of rain on and off through the weekend and even into Monday. Winds will be NE to E for the first part of the wkend then turning to the S and potentially gusty on Sunday ahead of approaching cold front. Cold front comes through late Monday switching the winds to the NW. The rest of the week looks fairly benign with more normal like temps and may get a frost or two by middle of the week. I have a vested interest in this as well as I will be in the area also.

We went in East Bearskin this year, the first time on Gunflint. I did notice, after our trip, the Ely weather forecast was more accurate or true to form than Grand Marias. I use NOAA, Weather Channel, and even our local station weather.
We travel with a weather radio and could not get any station to come in. Is this normal for that area?
