Took this picture this afternoon. I don't remember ever seeing a cloud formation like this. Any ideas what would cause this? I know the jet stream has dipped down bringing us some cool weather. Can't be caused by a aircraft, its just to big. The two types of clouds looked like they were about the same elevation.

They May be Cirrostratus or Cirrocumulus clouds. When I was In your neighborhood last September I saw some that looked similar. I thought they were amazing and I don’t see that type often here in the upper Midwest. They look great at sunset or sunrise too. It pays to look up once in a while. Maybe one of weather members can explain more about them.

Agree on the cirrocumulus clouds. What I have never seen is what looks like cirrus clouds in a straight line, through the other clouds.
What area did you visit when you were out here? Weather is sure interesting to watch. My wife and I were backpacking in the Sierras years ago. It was the only time I've seen purple and blue lightning! We were right in the storm.

Just looked at your picture again, first time just looked at the clouds. That looks like El Capitan in the background? If it is, you were about 50 miles north of our place. hope you enjoyed the trip.

You are right the photo was taken in Yosemite but at Mirror Lake. The Sierras are spectacular. You live in a nice area. I enjoy watching clouds wherever I am.

When I first looked up and seen the cloud formation, that was my first thought. However after watching for awhile, it didn't look like any jet trail I have ever seen in our area. But, as with weather, I guess anything is possible.

Indeed. Once a person looks around it's hard not to see them.

Chem-trails last for hours. Contrails are the jet stream you refer. Huge rabbit hole, here.

Us too. That was last year. This year we are having leaves curl up and drop early. Dead red maple is not a pretty color
