First of all, We are in ok shape in our early to mid fifties and have been camping in a tent fall 2018(first time in 20+ years) We loved it! I went in BWCA trips in the mid 80's to mid 90's twice a year with a group of 4 every time. My wife is up to go into BWCA and I am thinking our fist time, just us ... would be wise to not go too far and would be for pleasure and fishing. About 3 nights 4 days. Not against starting at any Entry point but want to make sure we fish a good lake. late May to mid June would be our target date. We would rent a good light weight canoe. Any good thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Fall lake to Pipstone Bay(Basswood)??

What species do you want to target?

If fishing was my main focus I would go to the Q. If I had to stay in the BW Knife would be in the top 5. I target LT and walleye for the most part. Still catch all the NP and SMB I want. You may want to pick a specific species and pick a smaller lake depending on weather.

Thanks all for the updates .... Am so pumped for getting out as forgot how awesome that was on my first BWCA trip ever back in September 1985 leaving Seagull lake going to South arm of Knife Lake in 1 day loaded with gear and setting up camp so we could fish the next 3 days from base camp in south arm of Knife. Remember was 21 years old and in good shape and by the time we got there around 5pm (left Seagull at crack of dawn) was sooo tired!!! was with a group of 4 and they were experienced and one guy was an excellent cook! Caught northern, Small-mouth and walleye . Remember going through Alpine and thought that was an awesome lake. Went to go on about 5 more trips at least till about early 90's and never tented again as fished lakes with a boat in Central and metro lakes(had 5 kids). Can remember walking up behind our camp in Knife on a big ridge that was breath taking; taking a nap on the edge(secure) reading Louis Lamore western book LOL ... what a great great time in my life!! Not sure Physically could take that trip but just getting out there again(spring 2019) even if short trip will be such an inspiration to this 54 year old guy!! Taking my wife and experiencing BWCA outdoors again!! CAN'T WAIT That is why am asking for a good lake to fish that we can handle at our age ... a portage or two would be fine. Thanks for your inputs

Bob
