i can't speak of other states or even the BW , not having many lakes with LMB , but right now in the twin cities water temp surface temp is 47*-48* excellent time for casting bigger spinnerbaits (1oz) in 5'-10' of water and cover. it does produce. tandem colorado w/ a big willow blade has been my fav.

Wow what a chunk!

I never did throw spinnerbaits much in late fall in Michigan. Maybe I missed the boat ;-) Instead my go-to was 4lb green XT and a J-11 original rapala in perch. That popped me some big girls in late fall. On such a set up the fights were quite memorable even though the water was cold. Long casts, ultra finesse in clear water. Lots of fun.

Last week I was catching many big smallmouth on the BooYah 3/8 oz chartreuse double willow glow blade. One of my main go to baits for the fall on my river.

Man, I'm jealous. This is usually my favorite time of year to chase largies, but the lakes I frequent haven't been producing on the old standby patterns. I've even tried changing it up...with no luck yet. I've even tried normal sized spinnerbaits, but I guess I'll be heading to the store tomorrow to get some big ones.

You're selling these for some commission, right, Shock? :)

No bass but the crappie had the feed bag on today. Kept 21 in 3 hours..
This lake is new and full of 9-10 inch fish.
The DNR IS RECOMMENDING for people to keep limits it is so full.

Started fishing it a few years ago.all 7 inches.

Now a little bit bigger..
Next couple years.

WOW LOOK OUT..
LIMIT IS 25.im sure that will drop in a few years...

I froze my Duff off fishing last Friday up in the BW, 17 degree wind chill. Couldn't end the season that way, so I went out yesterday afternoon here in the Cities and caught one fish, 5 lbs even. Crankbait. I need to remember to keep a spinnerbait rig handy in the fall.
And no, I don't eat Uptown fish unless I am at a restaurant.
:)

Largemouths are your favorite fish fry?
Have you ever had walleye, northerns (y-bones removed), sunfish or crappies?

He might have been referring to the crappies. Green Carp are gross.

Is it the cold temps that firm up the LMB meat? It's been a very rare occasion that I've even caught a bass through the ice, let along taking one home for the pan!

Sorry, but any type of bass is terrible to eat.
Crappies and sunfish are my favorite. Nice and crispy.
Followed by northerns "y bones removed" then walleyes.
Mustard battered. Check out the fish breading in the camping recipes forum.

YES , bass do become very lethargic in the winter to a point you can see them on a camera and they'll just slowing float through the screen as if there not moving , but on some occasions we do catch them , dont listen to Zwater he's fishing the minnesota river and lawn fertilized lakes. ;)
i just fried some bass up the other day with a double dip dry batter , progresso herb garlic bread crumb-instant potato flakes-a little flour w/ salt/ pepper/ garlic powder. it was spectacular ! JS !

You needed all of those ingredients to get rid of the "bass" taste:)

What about Progresso herb garlic bread crumbs, too?
Just wrap the bass fillets in bacon, cook it, then throw away the fillet and eat the bacon:)

Sunnies and crappies are my favorite.
We had to resort to eating a smallie about 10 years ago on Horse, because we didn't catch enough walleyes to feed 6 of us, and it was late in the day when we got in. My buddies took a bite of the bass fillet, and spit it out. Too fishy tasting, too thick of fillets, and they are terrible to eat!!!:)
