I flushed one this morning while deer hunting in the city of Duluth. First one I have ever seen. I had no idea they were this far north

They are very common further north across the prairie provinces in Canada, but at the edge of their range in northeastern MN. They are a grassland/cropland bird and not well adapted to the forested areas of MN.

it went ok..I bumped a doe twice on the way in..almost a mile to get to my stand..so moved my setup a little closer to where I park..about 1/3 mile to stand now and I don't go through that bedding area..flushed the bird on the way out with stand on back and pack on front..almost stepped on it... very pretty birds.

Way cool. Used to hunt them a in the dakotas. Very very fast bird. Almost impossible to get more than 2 good shots off on a covey.
